Literacy Workshop

The Literacy Workshop class provides time each day for students to improve their reading and writing skills. Students will explore short stories, non-fiction, and alternative forms of literature throughout the year. At the same time students will have the opportunity to work on making their writing more meaningful and powerful.

In order to accomplish this, we will continue to work on the 6+1 Traits of Writing: Ideas, Organization, Voice, Sentence Fluency, Word Choice, and Conventions.

The goals and purpose of this class are based on the following two established school-wide goals:

1. All students will improve their writing skills.
Students with a score of 4 or above will improve by at least .5 and students with a 3 or lower will improve by 1.0 as measured by ISAT, ECRA, and MyAccess.

2. All students will improve their reading skills by 4% on ISAT and by reaching Target Growth on MAP.
